The Toki (adze) is far more than a carving tool; it is a symbol of unwavering determination and mastery. The 3 lines represent the 3 Baskets of Knowledge.
Te Kete Tuauri carries ancestral knowledge and rituals. Te Kete Aronui brings knowledge of the natural world and the arts. Te Kete Tuatea holds knowledge of good and evil, teaching and learning.
The 3 lines can also represent Past, Present and Future, or Ancestors, the ones living now and the generations to come.
The sacred stone of Aotearoa. Pounamu of this beautiful land encompasses nephrite jade, serpentine, and tangiwai (bowenite). To the Māori of New Zealand, Pounamu (greenstone) is more than just a stone, it is a taonga (treasure) woven into the spiritual and cultural fabric of their ancestors.
